Action Figure Pattern Designs

Each student created a tag board “action figure” that represented a hobby or sport of interest to him/her. We traced our figure repeatedly to create areas of positive space, negative space, and overlap. The negative space areas, (the “background”,) were filled with dense patterns in order to provide a contrast with the positive space, (the figure,) which we left blank. We also addressed concepts of balance, pattern, composition and color! These colorful designs were done with markers on colored construction paper. As a final touch, each student outlined one figure with gold or silver for added emphasis.
