Kaleidoscope Designs

Each student created a wedge shaped “master design”, (shaped kind of like a pie piece.) The master design depicted images that reflected each student’s hobbies or personal interests and had to include “edge” shapes that were symmetrical half-shapes, as well as self-contained shapes. Students traced their master design a total of six times on white paper, using a light table.  Tracing the “master” three times forwards and three times backwards resulted in the circular designs you see in the finished project.  (Half-shapes became whole shapes during this process.) We used thin Sharpies to outline our designs and markers to color them. Students also had the option of adding glitter glue or metallic pens to embellish small parts of the design.
